Digital Media Design in the Age of Social Media

When I first created my Facebook account in 2010, I quickly realized that I’ve found new ways to display artwork, and to view the works of others. By uploading them into Facebook albums or Timelines, anyone on Facebook, or other social media websites, can quickly expand the space in which their graphic designs are displayed, thus increasing their followers, as well as, if established, growing their businesses.

Other social media websites like Twitter, Tumblr, and Instagram also have graphic design displaying options, as well as comment sections below that anyone can type within and send out. I personally have found these very useful communicative tools to engage with both my audience to learn from their feedback, and with other artists to learn from how they did their works, which giv me ideas on how to improve on my own craft.

Social media websites have come to supersede older means of media such as television or newspapers as platforms able to reach out to the masses. Users from all over the world can now either view or post up user-generated content, such as images, videos, text, and audio to be used for a wide range of applications, including problem processing, news, entertainment, advertising, and research. For those in the field of Digital Media Design, this meant they can now be inspired by, create, share, and operate on whole new levels unprecedented in human history.
