Earlier this year, I graduated from Central Ohio Technical College, with an Associate’s Degree in Applied Sciences, having majored in the Digital Media Design program. While I was a student there, I learned a lot about how to create all kinds of digital media able to be shared online, including images, graphics, clips, videos, and this very website!
While I do think learning these new skills was a pretty amazing experience, what I’ve REALLY wanted to learn was to do animation, possibly 2-D or 3-D animation. COTC’s DMD program fell short of what I expected there, but I did find other schools that could teach me more. Now I’ve got my sights squarely towards earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Digital Art, so it’s likely that’ll be my level of education reached by or before 2030. The question is: from where will I earn it? Here are 3 potential answers below:
This is this year’s (2020) ranking of the top 50 schools for animation in the United States; as you can see, the 3 colleges I’m thinking about going to are considerably close to each other in the ranking, at numbers 21, 24 & 26. My younger brother is set to graduate from this school this year. And it has an Animation major that gives students a real spring-forward step in the animation industry. Tap the logo here to see its Major page.
From what I’ve always heard, CCAD is supposed to be a SUPER GOOD school to learn Art and Design from. However, it’s also SUPER HIGH in prices, as you can see from my brother’s Financial Aid sheets.Unlike the other 2 colleges, which are located in Columbus, Ohio, this college named LCAD is near Los Angeles, California, where many of the animation industry’s world-renowned studios are also located. Click or tap the logo to check out their Animation undergrad program. However, the challenge here, like with CCAD, is that the annual tuition costs are not exactly cheap, and I would likely have to move to live on campus there, which wouldn’t be cheap in California, either…
If you’ve got some experience with college education, whether you’re an educator or have just been a student, I’d like to have your feedback on this; comment below on somewhere else where I can read from you. Just don’t ask if I want to take up any student loans – I am NOT planning a future full of debt! Hope to see you around!
